Amazing advice of the Prophet (SAW) – a sincere focus, a thoughtful word and an insightful hope
It was narrated that Abu Ayyoob said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When you stand to pray, pray like a man bidding farewell. Do not say anything for which you will have to apologise. And give up hope for what other people have.” [Ibn Maajah, 4171, saheeh]
If we pray as though it’s our last prayer, we will implore Allah (SWT) very humbly and supplicate to Him with sincerity and fear. If our every prayer is like this, then how much can sin could we possibly accumulate between prayers?
The second advice is regarding choosing our words carefully since spoken words cannot be taken back and ill speech can cause significant loss.
And thirdly, if we don’t vie for what others possess, our hearts will be clear of envy, jealousy, rancour and other negative feelings. We will be able to focus on acquiring the ever-lasting good of the Hereafter rather than the temporary illusions of this world. Also, others will feel more secure around us and our relationships will improve.
